Introduction OF LAUNG (SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM)

Clove is one of the mostly used species in Indian kitchen from ages. In Ayurveda it is also called Devakusuma i.e. flower of Deities. Interesting fact about clove is that it is hot to taste but it is cooling and soothing to stomach.From the ayurvedic perspective this herb has the great medicinal importance for the treatment of various ailments.

GANA

BOTANICAL NAME:- SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM

FAMILY:- MYRTACEAE

SANSKRIT NAMES

Bhadrasriya, Devakusuma, Devapuspa, Haricandana, Karampu, Lavanga, Lavangaka, Lavangam, Shrisangaya, Shirparsunak, Bhringanga, Shekhara, Chandanapushpaka, Varija

DESCRIPTION

A pyramicidal or conical evergreen tree upto 12 m high. Leaves simple, lanceolate, in pairs, 7-13 cm in length and 2-4 cm in breadth, gland dotted, fragrant.

PART USED:- PUSHPKALIKA (Flower Bud)

DOSE:- 1-2 gms powder, oil 1-3 drops

CHEMICALCONSTITUENTS

Clove essential oil contain Eugenol up to 70 to 90% .
Polyoxygenated chromone, Isobiflorin, Biflorin, Acetyleugenol, Caryophyllene, Napthalene, Eugenine, Eugenitine, Isoeugenitol,beta caryophyllene, methyl salicylate, kaempferol, triterpenoids, gallotannic acid, rhamnetin, vanillin .

Shwasa – Asthma, COPD, wheezing, breathing difficulty
Hikka – hiccups
Kshaya – chronic respiratory disorders
Vaktra kleda daurgandhya nashana – relieves bad breath and excessive sliminess of oral cavity, it brings clarity, relieves tastelessness and bad breath.

Antifungal, Antimicrobicidal, Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Histamine release inhibitory activity, carminative, anti-carcinogenic, immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory digestive, antibacterial, decongestant, expectorant and aphrodisiac properties.
